Cerita orang buta mengundi

Selamat membaca.

Australia: New IT to help visually impaired people vote.

ABC Online - Australia Wed Aug 1, 2007.

The Australian Electoral Comission has developed a computer allowing the blind and visually impaired to keep their voting preferences private.

Staff from the Australian Electoral Commission are in Hobart today demonstrating a customised computer enabling people with visual disabilities to vote without assistance.

The comission's assistant director for electronic voting, Judy Birkenhead says the machine was developed because blind and visually impaired people want to be able to keep their votes confidential..

She says visually impaired voters input their preferences into the specially modified machine.

"We've had enormous response of people extremely grateful that for the first time they won't have to disclose their voting preferences, they'll be able to vote just like a sighted person," she said.

The Electoral Commission says the system will be ready for this year's federal election.
