NEWS FROM ST. NICHOLAS' HOME PENANG
St. Nicholas has formed a committee on 14th February 2009 to promote
sports and recreational activities among the Home's residents as well
as among blind people in Penang. The committee comprises eight
members with Mr. Azhar bin Hassan as chairman. It plans to establish
a sports club, open a recreation room, upgrade the gymnasium and build
a goalball court. There will also be a sports day – tentatively on
18th April 2009.
On Monday, 16th February 2009, the Home hosted a special Chinese New
Year lunch for the trainees, staff and volunteers. Mr. Ooi Chee
Khoon, the Executive Director, took the opportunity to thank the
volunteers for their continued support of the work of the Home.
This Saturday, 21st February 2009, there will be a prostate screening
for blind men over the age of 50 at the General Hospital Penang. The
project is organized by Society for the teachings of Sadhu Vaswani,
Penang. All participants are to assemble at St. Nicholas' Home by
7.30 a.m.
Majlis Kanak-kanak Malaysia is organizing a nationwide awareness
campaign on the Disability Act. The first road show will be on 28th
February 2009 at Spastic Centre Penang.
Our Information Technology Department has started the International
Computer Driving License (ICDL) course with an enrolment of 17
students. The ICDL certification is recognized worldwide and it would
be an asset to blind people seeking employment. For further
