Three blind persons take part in cycling expedition

JOHOR BARU: Some 120 people including three disabled persons took part in a bicycle expedition to
Malacca recently.
Raja Muda of Johor Tunku Ismail Ibrahim flagged off the expedition called Jom Kayuh 2009 in Danga
Bay.
The expedition was organised by Gerakan Belia 4B's Bandar Baru UDA branch and supported by the state
Youth and Sports Department.
The participants were required to ride their bicycles from Danga Bay to the Malacca city centre, a
distance of 180km.
Present at the expedition was Youth and Sports Committee chairman Md Jais Sarday, who rode with the
group to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Muda Johor Tunku Ismail Ibrahim at Danga Bay in Johor Baru recently.
Programme co-ordinator Abdullah Awang said the participants started the expedition at 8am and
reached Malacca at 6pm.
Before the participants arrived in Malacca, they stopped at destinations like UTM's Rumah Alumni,
the pineapple museum in Pontian, Hentian Mahkota and Dataran Kesang.
Awang said the disabled persons, who were blind, would cycle with the normal participants.
"Even though they are blind, they participated in the expedition to create unity," he said.
Awang added that the expedition's purpose was to appreciate Malaysia's natural beauty and forge a
working relationship between the participants.
